Ghost Solution Suite 3.0 2015: The next release

It has been a while since the release of Symantec’s Ghost Solution Suite 2.5.1 which was released on december 2009. In 2012 another thread on connect about the new ghost development yes/no question was started: "When will come new Version of Ghost – GSS 3.0?".
It contains some valuable information what had happened and that a new version will not come quickly – after 3 years we are finally there.
In august 2014 an updated Boot Disk Creator 3.0 together with newer ghost binaries was released. The next update was at the end of november with the GIF Update for Microsoft Surface tablets and the GIF Update2 Ghost Solution Suite 2.5.1 tools update including Windows 8.1 Update 1 and UEFI 32bit support. Customers with a valid maintenance had access to the released updates. The Ghost base utilities were updated but the ghost console was not. Symantec again added another product to the GSS 3.0 product: Altiris Deployment Solution 6.9. It comes with its own set of components including a console for the management. The ghost client on the client computers is replaced by the DAgent. In GSS 3.0 you can still install the Ghost standalone tools without the Deployment Solution (DS) backend. DS integrates the Ghost tools for the Imaging tasks:

GSS 3.0: Ghost 12 Image restore in WinPE 5.0
GSS 3.0: Ghost 12 Image restore in WinPE 5.0

Some comments about the licensing of GSS 3.0. Customers with a valid maintenance for GSS 2.5 will get the new 3.0 release with no cost. In case the maintenance is expired Symantec has a “GSS 3.0 Expired Maintenance Promo offer”.
The 3.0 release has still not all the features from the GSS 2.5 release included this will be available in the upcoming 3.1 release.
